Sixth grade Social Studies objectives focus on the skills and strategies necessary to effectively learn about the cultures dating from prehistoric times with the discovery of the 1st human to the period of the rise of Christianity. Classroom Rules: The 3 B’s
1. Be Prepared - Bring paper, pencils, pens, notebook, journal and assignments to class each day.
2. Be Respectful - 1. Keep your hands, feet, and personal items to yourself. Speak nicely to your teacher and your peers. 2. Raise your hand to be called on. Do not speak out without permission, or when others are speaking.
3. Be your Best - Come to class rested and ready to learn.
Consequences for not following the Rules:
1. Verbal Warning- (Student will receive negative ClassDojo points)
2. Student/Teacher Conference (Letter will be sent home to parents to be signed and returned)
3. Detention
4. Office Referral (Student will be sent directly to the Principal’s office)
Helpful Hint:
Make-up work is your responsibility. Check the whiteboard near the homeworkbasket for your assignments.
Assignment and Agenda will be posted on the class website.
You have one day for each absence to finish work. (Example: Absent 2 days, then you have 2 days to complete the work)
Put your complete heading on the first page of every assignment. Your name is fine on the other pages. (Penalty 5 pts.)
Use only blue or black ink or pencil on all work turned in to me. (penalty 10 pts.)
Use white notebook paper
You must have a title or assignment information on all papers

MESSY WORK ----- If I can’t read it, I can’t grade it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tests or quizwill be given weekly onTHURSDAY or Friday.
Tests will be taken on the day I have assigned. If you are absent on the day prior to the test, you are still responsible for taking the test on the day you come back.
BE NEAT!!! Mark out with one line through the word or phrase. MAXIMUM OF 5 MARK OUTS ON A PAGE OR PAPER WILL BE REWRITTEN. I require you to take pride in your work!!!
Bring all your class materials to class daily.
We have dictionaries and thesaurus’s available for your use in class. UTILIZE THEM!!!
Your assignments must be written in your planner is a daily requirement.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:
What to do when you come into class:
Enter quietly and sit down in your assigned seat ( NO TALKING)
Sharpen pencils and turn in prior days homework
Begin working on the "Do Now" assignment posted on the board or at your seat
Continue working until timer goes off or until Coach Randlestops the assignment
If you finish early please read your assigned reading until time expires
Homework and Classwork Baskets
Located on the table near the whiteboard, baskets are labeled by class period. Turn in all work into the proper section.
Journals - All journals are to be turned in to the correct labeled basket or drawer area
Pencil Sharpening - It is your responsibility to make sure your pencil is sharpened and ready before Mrs. Martin begins class. Sharpen your pencils during the DO NOWassignment. If your pencils are ok, don’t try to sharpen them.
Trash
All trash will be kept until the class is dismissed or until Coach Randle allows for clean-up time before being dismissed before the next class. THE FLOOR IS NOT A GARBAGE CAN!!! Clean up after yourself!!! This is YOURresponsibility, not mine. Points will be deducted from your daily conduct and participation grade if you do not clean up.
Bathroom Breaks
THERE WILL BE NO RESTROOM TRIPS MADE DURING CLASS. Restroom trips will be made in between class periods at specified times.
Walking in the hall
There will be NO TALKING, QUIET!!! in the hallways. We will walk in a straight line when going down the halls. Keep your hands and feet to yourself in the hall. We will go back to the classroom and do it again and again until we get it right. This will result in you being late to lunch and other class periods.
Class Dismissal
When the bell rings stay seated until Coach Randlereleases you for the next class.
Absences
It is your responsibility to check the absent basket for your assignments. If you are absent you will have make-up work assigned to ensure that you will not miss any important skills. Students have 1 day for each absence to turn in their work. Parents can and are encouraged to pick up their child’s assignments the day the student is absent or as soon as possible for multiple absences.
Turning in Assignments
make sure your complete heading and the title of the assignment are on your paper
the heading is in the top right hand corner of the paper next to the margin (name, subject/grade/period and date) on 3 separate lines
create a title if you are not given one based on the assignment specifications
work must be complete and neat…. NO MORE THAN 5 MARK OUTS ON A PAGE OR THE ASSIGNMENT MUST BE REWRITTEN!!!
Late or Incomplete Work
late or incomplete work will receive 20 points off of your base grade ( grade will start at an 80)
you will have your name posted in the discipline book
A visitor enters the classroom
Stay on task while Mrs. Martin is visiting
If we are interrupted during a lecture/instruction time or activity, please get out your library book and read until the visitor leaves and the teacher resumes teaching
DO NOT shout at or call attention to the visitor
Emergency Drills
Quietly get out of your seat, leave all personal belongings at your desk, and follow specific guidelines for each emergency signal
Be sure to stay with/ near the class and teacher you are in at the time of the signal
