The assignment for this week has been for the students to read Chapter 8 Lesson 2 and create 1 question from these Questions Stems . The questions will be typed and given to classmate as the test for this week. Create at least 3 questions from each of the groups by using the question starters provided.

Week of 1/30 - 2/3
This week we will wrap on our discovery of Ancient Chinese civilization. We will discuss the creation and contributions of the Qin and Han dynasties, the importance of the Silk Road, and the diffusion of Buddhism to northern China. The standards for the week are as follows;
Standard 6.35 - LIST the policies and achievements of the emperor Shi Huang and explain how these contributed to the unification of northern China under the Qin Dynasty and the construction of the Great Wall of China.
Standard 6.36 - DETAIL the political contributions of the Han Dynasty and determine how they contributed to the development of the Imperial bureaucracy state and the expansion of the empire
Standard 6.37 – CITE the significance of the Trans-Eurasian “silk roads” in the period of the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire and their location.
Standard 6.38 - DESCRIBE the diffusion of Buddhism northward to China during the Han Dynasty

This week students will continue to explore ancient China and the philosophies of Confucius, Laozi, and Hanfezi, and how they affected China. Students will also explore Buddhism and how it became prevalent in China.
Standards for the week - 6.33 - Analyze the structure of the Zhou Dynasty and the emergence of Taoism, Confucianism, and Legalism
6.34 - IDENTIFY the political and cultural problems prevalent in the time of Confucius and how he sought to solve them.
6.38 - DESCRIBE the diffusion of Buddhism northward to China during the Han Dynasty.

1. Ancient Civilization Nystrom Handouts - Use this link access the workbook handout questions and Nystrom Atlas pages 20-23 to answer the questions.
2. Choose one of the Chinese philosophers and write a letter to the other two explaining why your philosophy is better. Include specific aspects of your philosophy as well as specific aspects of the other two. Use the names of the philosophers and philosophies. Information about the philosophers and their philosophies can be found on pages 178-181.
