Course Goals
Goal setting is instrumental in producing results instrumental to both personal and career achievement and advancement. When I embarked on the quest to obtain my masters degree, initially the primary reason was to position myself to be able to obtain a position which paid more. The limited opportunities for teachers to move upward through our profession to positions outside the classroom and the ability to gain financial growth in doing so, is very limited. Most positions which I have observed, within the district in which I work, require some sort of additional course work. Even having an endorsement added to a current license requires additional classes. The later of the two statements, I discovered 1st hand after trying to have a high school history endorsement added to my middle school license after passing the Praxis II for that particular content. I took steps, to discuss with the recruiter and other staff members at Bethel, to have the courses I need in order to have the endorsement added as electives prior to enrolling.
The second goal I have set for myself is to maintain an "A" average. This may seem minor to some ,but to set such a presidence for myself is my way of having something to work towards, day one. A an educator, how can I expect my students to achieve high levels of academic success if I am unable to maintain that same standard for myself. How will I insure these goals are reached? Planning, that's how. One piece of advice I will use, I picked up during orientation. I can't remember if the advice came from the instructor or if one of my classmates posted isn't a discussion, but the post stated that we should approach our online class in the the same manner we would a face-to-face class. I will allot the same amount of time for my online classes as if I were receiving instruction on campus.
Lastly, I teach in order to make a difference. My final goal is to obtain and retain as much information, from this class as possible. In order to be an good administrator it is important to understand what must go on in the classroom for teachers to be successful, what technology they need, and in general what it takes to be effective. "Isolating the most effective principals and allocating them accordingly between schools can have a significant positive effect on reducing the achievment gap." (Dhuey & Smith, 2014, p. 634) My goal is to be effective. To be a difference maker, to be a principal.
